Commanders Field Events

When Commanders Field (until recently called FedExField) first opened in 1997 as the new home of the Washington Redskins (now the Washington Commanders), it was the largest stadium in the NFL, with the capacity to hold up to 91,000 fans (design flaws and a lack of demand for upper tier seats, however, led the owners to close parts of the stadium, reducing its capacity to 58,000 as of 2021). While Commanders Field has come in for considerable criticism over its seating options, design flaws, and distance from public transportation, the stadium has witnessed some incredible games over the years (and seen some of the league’s largest attendances in its early years). In fact, in the very first game at Commanders Field, nearly 80,000 fans watched the home team beat the Arizona Cardinals in overtime 19-13. On the rare occasions when the ever-struggling Commanders have been fighting to book a spot in the NFL Playoffs, attendances have spiked even higher, as when they stretched up above 90,000 against the Dallas Cowboys in 2007. While the Commanders might not be the most successful team in recent years, loyal (and long-suffering) Commanders fans still remember their team’s three Super Bowl triumphs (1982, 1987, 1991) and cling to the belief that those days will return. Whatever the outcome, fans love to make a party out of game day, meeting up early for tailgating and socializing in the buildup to kickoff. Inside Commanders Field, hungry visitors will find plenty to eat, with everything from crab cakes to jerk chicken to tenderloin burgers on the menu. Kiosks and shops around the stadium also carry all manner of Commanders and event merchandise.

Commanders Field Seating Chart

Commanders Field provides its guests with many different seating options (some of them a bit, er, strange). Premium seating includes suites and VIP rooms, along with the somewhat-maligned “dream seats” in the first three rows of the stadium that compel fans to stand up for most of the game as they cannot see over the players on the sidelines. The rest of the stadium contains plenty of mid-range and cheaper seating, but do note that not all of the stadium is open to fans, as the upper tiers have been closed in sections due to a lack of demand. Check TicketX to see which tickets are available to games or events at Commanders Field and use our handy seating chart to evaluate which seating options best suit your preferences (and budget).
