The Arizona Cardinals currently hold two titles, one which speaks to their proud history as a franchise and another which they would very much like to be rid of. The Cardinals are the oldest professional football team in the USA that is still in existence today, having been founded in 1898 and helped to found the NFL in 1920 (the team was in Chicago back then, later relocating to St. Louis and then Arizona). Unfortunately, while the Cardinals did win two championships in 1925 and 1947, this was prior to the AFL-NFL merger, so they have never lifted a Super Bowl. This puts them in a dead heat (75 years) with the Cleveland Guardians of MLB for the longest running championship drought in American professional sports. The Cardinals have struggled to make the playoffs for much of their time in the league; since their move to Arizona in 1988, they have only made the playoffs six times (oddly, they have never lost a home playoff game though!). Cardinals fans were finally tempted to dream in 2009 when their team at last made it to the Big Show, but their team ended up on the wrong end of Super Bowl XLIII in a 27-23 nailbiter of a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Cardinals finished 2022 in the basement of the NFC with just 4 wins and are struggling so far in 2023 as well, but with talented players like Kyler Murray at quarterback and Budda Baker at free safety, their huge home fanbase (known as the Red Sea or Birdgang) will be hoping for better times going forward.
Despite struggling at times on the field throughout their history, the Arizona Cardinals have continued to maintain a loyal local fan base who flock to State Farm Stadium in huge numbers for Cardinals home games. While this makes the atmosphere at the stadium fantastic, it can make tickets difficult to find, particularly for key regular season deciders, postseason playoff games, or rivalry matchups (see below), which frequently sell out well in advance. To find the cheapest tickets to Arizona Cardinals football games, search the TicketX listings and game schedule on this page and use our handy TicketX seating chart to compare prices and locations. The Arizona Cardinals have a long-standing rivalry with the Los Angeles Rams that has resurfaced in recent years with the teams sharing a division and often competing for a playoff berth. The teams have met twice in the postseason, with the Rams emerging victorious on both occasions. Divisional realignments in the early 2000s also put the Cardinals on a natural collision course with new division rivals the Seattle Seahawks, against whom they have a 22-25-1 record (with no postseason meetings as of yet). When they were located in St. Louis, the Cardinals had a state rivalry with the Kansas City Chiefs, though this has mostly dissipated now since they moved to Arizona. The Cardinals also have a rivalry with the Chicago Bears dating back to the creation of the league in 1920 as the only two teams remaining from that time (though both their names have changed).
Going to an Arizona Cardinals football game at State Farm Stadium is an experience you will never forget. The whole day builds up to the game with fans arriving early to enjoy tailgating in the parking lots around the venue over some snacks and drinks with friends. There is even a “tailgating pub” where you can purchase delicious craft beer. Fans come dressed in cardinal red, black, and white to fill the stands of State Farm Stadium and inspired the Cardinals to victory. Known collectively as the Red Sea or Birdgang, the crowd at an NFL football game in Arizona makes a roar when their team hits the field that you will not soon forget.
