Toyota Stadium is located just outside central Dallas in the suburb of Frisco. As well as being the home stadium of MLS club FC Dallas, it houses the National Soccer Hall of Fame. The stadium, which first opened in 2006, is classed as a soccer-specific stadium though it also has the infrastructure to stage college and high school football games. While Toyota Stadium’s roof section looks very sleek and modern, supporters have complained at times that some stands have no roof at all, a problem in Texas during the hot summer months. Despite being one of the ten surviving teams who helped found MLS in 1996, FC Dallas has actually never lifted the MLS Cup, coming closest in 2010 when they lost a heartbreaking MLS Cup Final 2-1 in extra time to the Colorado Rapids. The team does have a couple of trophies in its cabinet, at least, having won the Supporters’ Shield (once) and US Open Cup (twice). Despite such up and down fortunes through the years, FC Dallas boasts a loyal core of dedicated fans, including the Dallas Beer Guardians and El Matador supporters groups, who show up game in, game out to cheer on the team.
