About American Aquarium

American Aquarium is an American alternative country and Americana band from Raleigh, North Carolina, formed in 2006 by frontman BJ Barham, who named the band after the Wilco song I Am Trying to Break Your Heart. Known for their gritty, anthemic rock sound paired with deeply personal and socially resonant songwriting, the band built a devoted following through relentless touring. Their 2012 album Burn. Flicker. Die., produced by Jason Isbell, became their critical breakthrough and is widely regarded as their finest work. Subsequent albums include Lamentations (2020) and Chicamacomico (2022), both produced by Shooter Jennings. Their most recent album, The Fear of Standing Still, recorded live at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, continues their exploration of Southern identity, generational trauma, and social commentary.
