About Goat

Goat is a Swedish experimental psychedelic rock collective currently based in Gothenburg, Sweden, who claim to originate from Korpilombolo — a remote village in Norrbotten County in Sweden's far north — where, according to their own mythology, a witch doctor introduced voodoo worship centuries ago before Christian crusaders destroyed the village and survivors placed a curse on the town. All members of the collective perform wearing masks and costumes and remain strictly anonymous, with no individual identities publicly confirmed. Their sound is an uncategorizable fusion of psychedelic rock, Afrobeat, Anatolian funk, Motorik Krautrock, heavy metal, and world music — described as "timelessly psychedelic" and not anchored to any single time or place — built around wah-wah guitar solos and relentless percussive energy. Their debut album World Music (2012), released on Rocket Recordings, entered the Swedish Albums Chart at number eight and earned widespread critical acclaim. Commune followed in 2014 on Sub Pop Records, and Requiem in 2016. After a six-year studio hiatus the band returned with Oh Death (2022) and Medicine (2023). In 2023 they provided the score to the acclaimed BBC/A24 drama series The Gallows Pole, directed by Shane Meadows. Their sixth studio album, the self-titled Goat, was released in 2024.
