About Lit

Lit is an American alternative rock and pop-punk band formed in Orange County, California, consisting of brothers A. Jay Popoff (lead vocals) and Jeremy Popoff (guitar), Kevin Baldes (bass), and Taylor Carroll (drums). Originally founded in 1988 under the name Razzle, the band went through several name changes — including Stain — before settling on Lit after signing with independent label Malicious Vinyl in 1995. Their debut album Tripping the Light Fantastic was released in 1997, and the band signed with RCA Records in 1998. Their major-label debut A Place in the Sun (February 1999) went platinum and produced the number one modern rock hit "My Own Worst Enemy," which topped the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for eleven weeks, alongside the singles "Miserable" and "Zip-Lock." The band toured with The Offspring, Garbage, and No Doubt and appeared at Woodstock 1999. Their third album Atomic (2001) produced the top-ten hit "Lipstick and Bruises." Lit has released seven studio albums across a career spanning more than three decades. Drummer Allen Shellenberger, who had been with the band since its earliest days, passed away from brain cancer on August 13, 2009. The band continues to tour and record, with their most recent album The View from the Bottom released in 2017.
