Paula Cole is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born Paula Dorothy Cole on April 5, 1968, in Rockport, Massachusetts. Raised in a musical family — her father was a professor and polka musician, her mother an art teacher — she attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, studying jazz singing and graduating in 1990. Peter Gabriel heard her unreleased debut and invited her to tour as a vocalist on his 1993–1994 Secret World Tour. Her debut album Harbinger followed in 1994 on Imago Records. Her second album This Fire (1996) on Warner Bros. became a multi-platinum success, yielding the Billboard Top Ten hit "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?" and "I Don't Want to Wait," which became the theme song to Dawson's Creek. She has since released additional albums including Courage (2007), Ithaca (2010), Raven (2013), and Lo (2024), and has been on the voice faculty at Berklee College of Music since 2013.
