Sublime is a ska/punk/reggae band from Long Beach, California that features a Dalmatian as its mascot. When Bradley Nowell, one of the members, passed away from a heroin overdose in 1996, the band broke up. Some of their songs were released on US radio in 1997. They released 3 studio albums and 1 live album. Their commercial success came with their third, self-titled album, which came out 2 months after founding member Nowell died. In 2009, the band reformed. There was a dispute over the band’s name as a Los Angeles judge banned them from using it since it was owned by Nowell’s estate, so they used the name Sublime with Rome instead. Sublime was one of the most popular bands during the third wave of ska music, specifically ska pink. They were influenced by 80s and 90s hip hop and southern California metal and surf rock. They were one of the first, and most influential, musicians in reggae fusion. Once they achieved mainstream success, they went platinum five times and got worldwide recognition.
