Tech N9ne is the stage name for Aaron Dontez Yates, a rapper/singer who was born in 1971. He and his business partner, Travis O’Guin, started Strange Music, a record label and he went on to sell over 2 million albums. His music has been featured on TV shows, in films, and in interactive media. Tech N9ne’s stage name came from the TEC-9 semi-automatic handgun and the name was given to him by Black Walt, another rapper who wanted to give him credit for his chopper, fast-rhyming style. Yates later stated that the name stands for the complete rhyme and technique he uses. The artist was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and began rapping the letters of his name to remind himself how to spell it. He is known for his dynamic rhyming schemes and wide-ranging, mind-blowing flows. He credits old-school hip-hop as his inspiration.
