This historic event center is named after the Bojangles restaurant chain because of the Coliseum’s management's sponsorship deal with the company. Before this agreement was made, the center used to be called Charlotte Coliseum, Independence Arena, and Cricket Arena at some point.

As a sports arena, this venue has hosted basketball, hockey, indoor football, lacrosse, and wrestling games from different competitions. Aside from sports, the venue is also famous for hosting concerts, shows, and even university ceremonies for colleges around.
