Back in 1927, three men's dream of building a community center created the Genesee Theatre, and today, over a hundred years later, their vision is still standing. Seeing the beautiful structure that the venue is today makes it look like the theater's ride has been rosy. However, in reality, a $23 million renovation opened the theater in 2004 and made it what it is today.

The Genesee Theatre has been the center of the Waukegan community for all its years of existence. Old establishments of this caliber are always rich in historically relevant events. This theater hosted world premieres for “Man About Town” and “The Navy Way.” It also showed the first talking picture in Waukegan, “The Lion and the Mouse,” back in 1928.
