The Rod Laver Arena is the largest indoor arena in Melbourne and is home to the Australian Open. Launched in 1988 as part of the original National Tennis Center Complex, it hosts an extensive range of sports and entertainment events, such as tennis, motorbike supercross, and international rock concerts.

In 2000, the place was renamed Rod Laver Arena in honor of the memory of the tennis icon who saw one of the best successes on the court. Laver, an Australian, is referred to as one of the all-time greatest tennis players, with a load of Grand Slam titles decorating his career in the game.

Rod Laver Arena can seat 14,820 people, but the capacity can be expanded to 15,000 for special events like basketball derbies. The venue shares land with the iconic Melbourne Sports Precinct, where MCG, AAMI Park, and the John Cain Arena also sit.

The venue was formerly known as Center Court at Melbourne Park and, before that, Flinders Park.
