Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center, originally opened in 1958 as the Charleston Civic Center in West Virginia, encompasses the Coliseum, Theater, Auditorium, and Convention Center. Starting with a $2.5 million construction that featured a 6,000-seat arena and a 750-seat "Little Theater," the complex has undergone several renovations and expansions. Notably, a $10 million overhaul in 1976 significantly increased its capacity and facilities, including a 13,000-seat coliseum. Further enhancements included parking garages in 1983 and conversion of the ice rink into an exhibit hall in 2001. A major renovation in 2015, costing around $72 million, aimed to modernize the venue while keeping it operational. The center, a key venue for various events, reflects ongoing commitment to maintaining a state-of-the-art facility for the community, underscored by a sponsorship deal with Friends of Coal for the basketball court.
