CMAT (born Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, February 23, 1996) is an Irish singer and songwriter from Dublin. Known for her blend of alternative, indie, country, and pop, her music is widely described as mournful yet humorous, emotionally literate, and cleverly crafted. She dropped out of Trinity College Dublin and spent time at a songwriting camp in Denmark before relocating to Manchester to pursue music, eventually returning to Ireland and beginning to self-release her own material. Her debut album If My Wife New I'd Be Dead (2022) topped the Irish Albums Chart and won the Choice Music Prize Album of the Year. Her second album Crazymad, for Me (2023) earned her a spot on the BBC Sound of 2024 longlist and charted in the UK. Her third album Euro-Country (2025), which touches on Irish history, capitalism, and personal loss, was nominated for the Mercury Prize and earned her a performance on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. CMAT is openly bisexual and known for her outspoken political views and strong connection with LGBTQ+ audiences.
