Drivin N Cryin is a southern rock group that formed in 1985 in Atlanta, Georgia. Member Kevin Kinney was working at a sewage treatment plant and playing folk music at night when he met other members and formed the band to write original songs. Other bands joined in and they chose a name based on one of the songs they had that reflected the band’s musical direction. By 1986, they became a top club draw in Atlanta and signed with an independent label. Their first album helped them land a tour and another contract later. They also held a Benefit for the Hopeful, which became an annual event in Atlanta for homeless organizations. In 1994, they. Moved away from heavy guitar sounds and added keyboard options. They produced a self-titled album in 1997. In 2012, a documentary about the band came out and they were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2015.
