Gryffin is the stage name of Daniel Griffith, an American DJ, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist born on September 29, 1987, in San Francisco, California, of Native American and Japanese descent. He began his musical journey at age seven as a classically trained pianist before adding guitar in high school, and studied electrical engineering at the University of Southern California, teaching himself music production using a downloaded copy of Ableton. Before focusing on Gryffin, he co-produced the mashup project White Panda with childhood friend Tom Evans starting in 2009. His 2014 remix of Ellie Goulding's "Burn" launched his career under the Gryffin name, followed by viral remixes of Maroon 5's "Animals," Tove Lo's "Talking Body," and Years & Years' "Desire."
