About Kody West

Kody West is an American Texas red dirt and alt-country singer-songwriter from Denton, Texas. Inspired by country legends including Johnny Cash, he began taking guitar lessons at age nine, took a deeper dive into songwriting in high school while recovering from football injuries, and began picking up acoustic gigs and entering songwriter competitions throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He worked as a tour manager for Dalton Domino and the Front Porch Family Band, playing fill-in shows and opening slots while learning the business — all while developing his own chops as a performer and writer. In 2015 he recorded his debut EP Higher Ground in Stephenville, Texas, produced by Ben Hussey and Josh Serrato (of Six Market Blvd), which was released in January 2016 with the single "Playing Cards." He then formed a full-time band and began touring regionally. His debut full-length album Green (2017) — a well-produced blend of country roots and rock sensibilities featuring standout tracks "Million Miles" and "Shine Out" — earned widespread critical acclaim in the Texas music scene, with Saving Country Music praising its maturity well beyond his 21 years. Blending alt-rock edges, outlaw country spirit, and big sing-along hooks with one boot in country roots and the other on a fuzz pedal, Kody West has built a loyal following through relentless touring and a live show described as less like a set list and more like a shared story. He has a Live at Billy Bob's Texas recording and continues to release new music including the 2026 single "Oxygen."
