About Martinsville Speedway

Martinsville Speedway is a 0.526-mile paperclip-shaped short track located in Ridgeway, Virginia, and is both the oldest and shortest track on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule. Founded in 1947 by H. Clay Earles, the track has hosted NASCAR Cup Series races every year since the division's inaugural season in 1949, making it the only track with that distinction. Known for its tight 12-degree banked turns, long flat straightaways, and heavy contact racing, Martinsville produces some of the most dramatic and memorable events on the NASCAR calendar. Winners receive the iconic grandfather clock trophy, a tradition started in 1964 that reflects Martinsville's heritage as a hub of the Virginia furniture industry. Richard Petty holds the all-time Cup Series record with 15 victories at Martinsville. The track hosts two Cup Series events per year, with the fall race serving as a playoff elimination race.
