Oklahoma Sooners Football

Among all their many other accomplishments, the Oklahoma Sooners must be the only American college football team to have been coached by a future Pulitzer Prize winner,  Professor Vernon Louis Parrington (who coached the team from 1896-1900), who would go on to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1928. As a football program, the Sooners took a little while to really get going, but were virtually unstoppable in the years after World War II, winning 12 conference titles in a row alongside three claimed national titles and numerous Bowl wins. The Sooners have remained dominant throughout the decades since, with two of their best stretches as a team coming in the 2000s under the leadership of Bob Stoops followed by Lincoln Riley, which saw the team dominate the Big 12 with 15 conference titles between 2000-2020 as well as wins in the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl Classic (twice), Orange Bowl, Sun Bowl, Sugar Bowl (twice), and Alamo Bowl, among other notable results. The Sooners are also the NCAA team with the greatest number of Heisman Trophy winners (tied at seven with the Ohio State Buckeyes). All in all, the Sooners have the sixth-highest all-time win percentage of any NCAA team, 50 conference titles, 17 national titles (7 claimed, 10 unclaimed), and a strong Bowl record of 31-25-1.

How can I get cheap tickets to Oklahoma Sooners football games?

It will come as no surprise that such a long-lived and successful college football team as the Oklahoma Sooners will have loyal legions of fans, but it can be quite overwhelming to see it in front of one’s eyes. The small town of Norman might have fewer than 130,000 inhabitants, but the Palace on the Prairie (Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium) still fills up with over 80,000 for virtually every home Sooners game, with many fans making long journeys to come enjoy the buildup, the atmosphere, and the game. Tickets can be difficult to get ahold of, particularly with Bowl games, title deciders, or rivalry matchups (see below), which tend to sell out quickly. TicketX is the best place to find the cheapest tickets to Oklahoma Sooners football games. Our handy stadium seating chart is the simplest way to compare various seating options in terms of price and location. Oklahoma Sooners football rivalries

With the Oklahoma Sooners set to leave the Big 12 Conference and join the Southeastern Conference in 2024, they will inevitably meet some of their current rivals less frequently for the time being, such as the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Nebraska Cornhuskers. The good news is that the move should reignite the Sooners’ long-standing rivalry with the Missouri Tigers, which has lain dormant for many years. Their rivalry with the Texas Longhorns isn’t going anywhere either, as the Longhorns will be following the Sooners to the Southeastern Conference in 2024.

Are Oklahoma Sooners football games exciting?

Oklahoma Sooners football games are big events on the campus of the University of Oklahoma, with plenty of buildup before kickoff in the form of pep rallies, partying, and tailgating. Excitement builds to fever pitch inside Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium when the team’s mascot, the Sooner Schooner, a covered wagon of the type used to settle the Old West, makes its way across the field, pulled by a pair of white horses. Red and white-clad fans cheer on their team, accompanied by the Pride of Oklahoma marching band in renditions of the team’s fight song “Boomer Sooner” and the state song “Oklahoma.” Don’t miss out on the football and the fun–get your Oklahoma Sooners football tickets from TicketX today!
