Starship is a rock band that continued the group Jefferson Starship as it took on a new direction. The group formed in San Francisco, California, lost members and settled a lawsuit that led to changing its name. Starship’s first album went platinum and included two singles that charted at number one. Their next album went gold, unit the group took a hiatus in the 90s before regrouping in 1992 and touring again. The lawsuit revolved around Jefferson Airplane leaving the group Jefferson Starship.  No one from the band was allowed to use the name unless all members were back together again. That is why the group Starship became Starship instead of using an earlier name related to parts of the group.
