The moniker Minnesota Twins was chosen for the franchise when it moved from Washington, DC to Minnesota in 1960, in order to reflect the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul (also seen in the team’s twin mascots, Minnie and Paul). The Twins had their biggest heyday in the late 1980s and early 1990s, led by the indomitable square-shaped Kirby Puckett and symphonic hurler Frank Viola, beating a strong St. Louis Cardinals in the 1987 World Series with a dramatic come-from-behind Game 7 win in front of 55,000-plus delirious home fans. The team repeated the feat in 1991, outlasting the Atlanta Braves in seven games to bring a second World Series home to Minnesota. While the Twins have struggled in recent decades, fans are hopeful that the team can bring postseason thrills back to Target Field in 2024. Nothing gets MLB baseball fans all revved up like their team taking to the diamond against one of their major rivals. Here are two of the Minnesota Twins’ most significant rivalries.
The Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox have a rivalry that extends back to the turn of the last century when the two became founding members of the American League in 1901 (the Twins were located in Washington, D.C. under several names until 1960). The rivalry never really heated up all that much until the turn of this century, however, when the pair began to battle for the AL Central Division title in the early 2000s. The most dramatic moment of the Twins-White Sox rivalry came in 2008 when the teams finished with exactly the same regular season record (88–74), thus necessitating a single-game tiebreaker to see who would go on to the postseason. The White Sox pipped the Twins 1-0 on a seventh-inning home run by Jim Thome. As you can imagine, Twins fans have never forgotten this, so the White Sox always get a rough ride when they come to town! The two teams are set to face one another 14 times across the 2024 season, with 7 games hosted at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago and 7 games at Target Field in Minneapolis.
The rivalry between the Minnesota Twins and the Milwaukee Brewers, known as the Border Battle, is a local geographical MLB rivalry given fuel by the general multi-sport rivalry (especially in college basketball, hockey, and football) between the neighboring northern states of Minnesota and Wisconsin. The rivalry has cooled somewhat since the Brewers moved to the National League in 1998, meaning that the two teams rarely play apart from interleague matchups (the only other possible meeting being the World Series, which would be great but has not yet happened). The Twins and Brewers are set for 4 interleague games in 2024, with the first two (including the Brewers home opener) at American Family Field in Milwaukee and the latter two at Target Field in Minneapolis.
There will be 12 teams who make the 2024 Playoffs: six from the American League and six from the National League. Four of the six will have to play in the Wild Card Series to try to advance to the ALDS and NLDS. Last year, the AL’s 5th-seeded Texas Rangers and the NL’s 6th-seeded Arizona Diamondbacks shocked the baseball universe by advancing to the 2023 World Series, where the Rangers defeated the Diamondbacks, 4-1.
It doesn’t seem either of those teams will get to the 2024 World Series, with traditional powerhouses like the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers off to nice stars in their leagues behind Juan Soto and Shohei Ohtani. And with upstart teams like the Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Guardians, and Kansas City Royals in the AL and the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies in the NL, there will certainly be four good teams playing in the ALCS and NLCS.
There seem to be only five teams—two from the AL and three from the NL—who could end up meeting in the 2024 World Series. The Yankees have been a pleasant surprise in the Senior Circuit, and oddsmakers at DraftKings currently have Aaron Judge and the Bronx Bombers at +600 (6/1) to win the Fall Classic, with their AL East rivals, the Baltimore Orioles, priced at +900 (9/1).
In the Junior Circuit, things should be a little bit harder with the Dodgers (3/1), Braves (4/1), and Phillies (+850). Two of these three solid teams are likely to have to go through one of the others in both the NLCS and NLCS just to get to the World Series.
With Soto playing so well in the Bronx and big bats like Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Anthony Rizzo, look for the Yankees to be in the World Series with the Orioles more talented but still very young. And despite the generational talent of the Braves and Dodgers rosters, look for the Phillies to find a way to advance in October.
Why? Philadelphia’s infield is tremendous, with Bryce Harper (1B), Bryson Stott (2B), Trea Turner (SS), and Alex Bohm (3B). With pitchers Ranger Suárez (8-0) and Aaron Nola (6-2) off to great starts, the Phillies should find a way to outscore all opponents and knock off the Yankees in the 2024 World Series.
2024 MLB World Series Prediction: Phillies over Yankees, 4-2

The first pitches of the MLB preseason (Spring Training) are generally thrown in late February, continuing through March until the regular season opener in late April. Like all MLB teams, the Minnesota Twins usually play approximately 25-30 preseason games at various locations (generally in warmer climates) followed by the 162 games of the regular season. The MLB regular season finishes at the end of September, followed immediately by the MLB Playoffs/Postseason in October (if the Twins make it). Fans should note that some preseason games take place in non-MLB North American markets or even overseas in other countries (such as South Korea in 2024).
While preseason games do not factor into a team’s record in the MLB regular season standings, don’t completely write them off! Not only are tickets to preseason games generally much cheaper, but they also allow baseball fans a sneak peek at exciting draft picks and other young players who could be the bright new lights in the Minnesota Twins lineup in the upcoming season. And with tickets at cheaper prices from TicketX, premium seats are also much more reasonably priced, providing you with your chance to sit close to the infield like you’ve always wanted to!
A decent 2023 campaign that saw the Twins beat the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL Wild Card to reach the ALDS against the Houston Astros, who beat the Twins 3-1. With a good start to their 2024 season, the Twins will be looking to add depth and power to their roster through trades before the July 30 trade deadline, with Blue Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi one of the big names reportedly on their radar (source: puckettspond.com). In the off-season this winter, the Twins will no doubt turn to free agents, new talent from the draft, or trades with other franchises to try to improve their team for 2025.
After five decades spent sharing a home with the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL, the Minnesota Twins finally got a baseball-specific stadium of their own when Target Field opened in 2010. Set amongst the historic buildings of Minneapolis’s warehouse district, this open-air ballpark boasts spectacular views of the downtown skyline. Target Field possesses several unique features including the Budweiser roof deck out past left-center field, which has the only open bonfire in MLB. The roof deck is a popular spot, generally being a standing room only. Visitors also tend to enjoy the large display of Minnie and Paul, the Twins’ twin mascots, which features two baseball players shaking hands across the Mississippi River, one wearing the uniform of the Minneapolis Millers and the other of the St. Paul Saints, the two minor-league teams of the Twin Cities that preceded the arrival of the Twins. The display lights up during games in response to events on the field each inning. Along with all regular season and playoff Twins home games, Target Field occasionally hosts concerts, international soccer matches, college football games, and outdoor NHL hockey games. Hungry visitors to Target Field will find plenty of scrumptious snacks, including Kramarczuk’s Polish sausages, Red Cow cheeseburgers, and Bub’s Gourmet Aussie Pies. Craft beer and draft beer flow freely all around the ground.
Getting to a Twins game at Target Field using public transportation is a breeze using METRO light rail, commuter rail, SouthWest transit services, or local buses (the stadium was designed to make it particularly convenient to arrive by train). Visitors can also cycle or walk to the venue. Driving to Target Field in your own vehicle is fairly straightforward as long as you budget enough time for heavy game day traffic. There is plenty of on-site parking at Target Field and even more at local parking lots around downtown Minneapolis. Making a parking reservation in advance is highly encouraged ($15-20).
The Target Field bag policy recommends that guests try not to bring any bags at all if possible. If you must bring a bag, the maximum size is 16” x 16” x 8.” Backpacks, laptop bags, duffel bags, and other large bags are not permitted. All bags are subject to inspection.
Target Field has an extensive list of rules set up to try and ensure a safe, enjoyable day at the venue for you, your friends, and everyone else. Most of these rules are common sense, but some to remember include:
Beverage Policy only sealed bottled water (max. 32 oz.) and milk/juice containers for children (soft-sided) can be carried into Target Field. Exceptions will be made for legitimate medical reasons as well.
Cameras bring your camera, please! However, be aware that video cameras, external camera equipment (tripods, selfie sticks, etc.), and long professional lenses are not permitted.
Cashless Payments the stadium only accepts payment by card or electronic means, though you can convert cash to a card at several reverse ATM machines within the venue.
Smoking - smoking, including vapes and electronic cigarettes, is not permitted at Target Field. No exceptions.
Visit the stadium’s policies page for a full list of rules at Target Field.
A number of good hotels can be found within walking distance (or a short cab ride) of Target Field. Here are some of your best bets when it comes to accommodation near the venue:

Those in search of a luxurious day at the ballpark can apply for premium seating in Thomson Reuters Champions Club, Delta Sky360° Club, Delta Sky360° Suite, and Target Field Annual Suites. All premium seating areas offer superb views of the on-field action along with five-star service and amenities. Fans who have previously attended events at Target Field have provided reviews of different seats in the stadium. According to rateyourseats.com, One fan who watched a Twins game from the exclusive Dugout Club (right behind the dugouts) premium section said the views were unbelievable and that they got autographs and great pictures. Another fan, who opted for the Delta SKY360 Club, rated the views and the drinks 5 stars, stating that there was not a better way to watch a baseball game. Visitors who spent games in far less luxurious surroundings were equally enthusiastic, with one fan who watched a game from the left field bleachers stating that it was great to be close to the field for such a low price and another who had a ball tossed to her son by a visiting team player! One or two people, however, did mention that some other fans in those sections do tend to get a bit drunk and rowdy. Please note that all reviews are inevitably subjective as they are opinions of individual visitors. Experiences and preferences vary from person to person.
