Capacity: 30,991
Home Teams: Toronto FC (MLS), Toronto Argonauts (CFL)
BMO Field was built in 2007 in downtown Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario, just a few kilometers (10 minutes drive) west of the city’s iconic CN Tower and Rogers Centre (more commonly known as the Skydome, home of MLB’s Toronto Blue Jays). Originally used as a venue for the 2007 U-20 World Cup, BMO Field soon became the home ground of Canada’s first ever MLS franchise, Toronto FC. In 2016, Toronto FC were joined at BMO Field by the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL (Canadian Football League), who at 150 years old are the oldest professional sports team in North America still playing under their original name. The Argos, incidentally, are the most successful CFL team of all time, with 18 Grey Cup victories to their name. The stadium is set to expand its capacity to 45,736 in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Since joining the MLS in 2007, Toronto FC have brought many exciting moments to BMO Field, winning the Canadian Championship 8 times and progressing once to the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions League. In 2017, Toronto became the first Canadian team to win the MLS Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup, which they claimed in 1 °C (34 °F) weather with a 2-0 win over the Seattle Sounders in front of 30,584 rapturous fans at BMO Field (giving them a rare domestic treble). That said, the team has struggled in recent seasons, failing to qualify for the MLS Playoffs since 2020 and finishing rock bottom of the league in 2023. Nevertheless, Toronto FC still has some of the most passionate and loyal fans in the league, frequently selling out games (or even whole seasons!) to legions of red-clad supporters in groups such as the Red Patch Boys, U-Sector, Kings in the North, Tribal Rhythm Nation and Original 109. The team is also one of the highest valued financially in the MLS and currently has the highest payroll; so surely, they’ll be back. Hungry visitors to BMO Field will find no shortage of delicious snacks, with everything from the All-Dressed Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich and footlong giant Taquito to the Porchetta Sandwich and Jerk Chicken Poutine on the menu (this being Toronto, there are also gluten friendly, vegetarian, vegan, halal, and kosher options), as well as plenty of cold craft beer. For Toronto FC merchandise, head to one of the venue’s many shops and kiosks.
As well as Toronto FC soccer games, BMO Field has frequently hosted international soccer matches, mostly featuring the Canadian Men’s National Soccer Team and Canadian Women’s National Soccer Team (including a vital World Cup Qualifier for Qatar 2022 when the Men defeated the USA 2-0 in a memorable and emotional victory). In 2026, BMO Field is set to host several matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The venue also hosted the 2016 CFL Grey Cup and has staged rugby, lacrosse, and outdoor NHL hockey games. Concerts and music festivals have surprisingly been thus far somewhat limited at BMO Field, with a single appearance by Genesis in 2007 the only concert held at the venue. No doubt this may change in the near future, so keep your eye on TicketX for concerts and other events at BMO Field !
