EagleBank Arena is located in Fairfax, Virginia, in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. The 10,000-seat arena, home to the George Mason Patriots, launched in 1985 and has since then played forte to Mason.
The home team's high point came in 2006, when it made a Cinderella streak to the Final Four as an 11-seed, ousting a top seed called UConn on the way.
However, the team has struggled with returning to the run ever since. While George Mason was a founding member of the Colonial Athletic Association, he relocated to the Atlantic 10 in 2013, where he has been ever since.
All the seats in EagleBank are chair backs, each with alternating green and gold sections that reflect the colors of the arena’s host school. Above the center court, a video board shows the score, time, fouls, and timeouts.
In hindsight, the 10,000 seats are too much, as the arena rarely comes close to being sold out for an event. Some of the seats in the corners have been covered by advertisements, yet many empty seats remain, particularly in the upper rows.
The host school makes a substantial effort to keep its fans engaged; they have a pep band known as Doc Nix and the Green Machine, among the best America has to offer. The band brings musical energy to every game, and its director, Michael Nickens, is known for audacious outfits: sunglasses, multi-colored suits, and a scepter.
Cheerleaders, as well as a (separate) dance team, also entertain fans during breaks. Mason’s mascot, known as The Patriot, is a custom traditional cum colonial garb in gold and green. After every Masson three-point basket, the cheerleading squad traditionally throws t-shirts into the crowd.
The venue hosts diverse events throughout the years, catering to an array of tastes and interests, whether it is music concerts, sporting events, family shows, or cultural exhibitions.
One such is the tour of Gabriel Iglesias, themed Don’t Worry Be Fluffy, which will be held from Thursday, March 14th to Friday, March 15th, 2024. Other tours to make stops here are Don Omar’s Back to Reggaeton, MercyMe’s Always On Jesus and Jay Wheeler’s Trappi.
Bryan Adams Dave with Dave Stewart, Jurassic World Live, Los Temerarios, and Cirque du Soleil: Corteo will be held here from March through May. Check TicketX to view these events and get access to affordable show tickets.
