From 1970 until the mid-1990s, the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers played their basketball in the Memorial Coliseum, famous as one of the loudest buildings in the entire league. When the Blazers moved to the Moda Center in 1995, the team was keen to maintain the competitive advantage that comes with a raucous home atmosphere. The architects responded, affixing 160 rotating panels to the new venue to create a unique “acoustical cloud” that can be adjusted to better suit different events.
