UTEP's Magoffin Auditorium, named after El Paso pioneer James W. Magoffin and completed in 1951, has been a central venue for cultural and educational events in El Paso, Texas. Initially proposed in 1941 but delayed due to World War II, it was constructed with a vision to host a wide range of university and community events, featuring modified Bhutanese architecture and equipped with modern facilities, including radio and television equipment. Historically significant, it hosted Texas's first integrated stage performance at a public university in 1956. Extensively renovated in 1973 to enhance its acoustics, seating, and technical capabilities, Magoffin Auditorium is connected to the Fox Fine Arts Center, facilitating logistical ease for performances. With 1,156 permanent seats, it serves as UTEP's largest lecture hall and a venue for a variety of events, including performances by the El Paso Ballet and the El Paso Wind Symphony. Marking its place in UTEP's cultural fabric, the auditorium was further celebrated with the gift of the "Esfera Cuantica" sculpture by Mexican artist Sebastian in 2014, symbolizing the university's centennial and its cultural connections. Magoffin Auditorium continues to enrich the UTEP and El Paso communities as a hub for arts and education.
Over the years, UTEP Magoffin Auditorium has hosted many entertainment events since its inception. Its versatility allows it to be the stage for various performances and sports events. Given its history, the venue is set to continue attracting notable artists and sports performers. Several artists and sports events have already announced their performance shows for this year.
