Washington Huskies Football

The Washington Huskies began playing football in the 1890s, though they were not bestowed with their Arctic canine nickname until 1922, shortly after moving into the newly constructed Husky Stadium (where they have played since 1920). The Huskies are one of the most successful college football teams west of the Mississippi River, and nationwide, with an impressive 775-466-50 (for a .620 winning percentage) as well as a respectable 21-21-1 record in Bowl games, including 7 Rose Bowl victories. The team also boasts 5 national titles (2 claimed, 3 unclaimed) as well as 18 conference titles, and so many Huskies quarterbacks have gone on to star in the NFL (Warren Moon, Mark Brunell, Chris Chandler, etc.) that the university has become known as Quarterback U. Recent years have been especially kind to the Huskies, with the team winning conference or division titles in five of the last eight seasons, including a 14-1 conference-winning season in 2023 where they also lifted the Sugar Bowl. The Huskies also hold the record for the longest unbeaten streak in college football (64 games in a row) and have posted 13 seasons where they went undefeated. The team’s helmets are among the most iconic in American college football: blazing gold with a blue-white racing stripe at the top and large Ws on the sides. The Huskies are very popular across the Pacific Northwest, with fans driving in from all over the state and even down from Canada and Alaska to soak the stands of Husky Stadium in school colors of purple and gold. Whatever the weather (windy, rainy, snowing), the fans come together to tailgate, chant, and belt out “Bow Down to Washington” alongside the university’s marching band.

Washington Huskies Rivalries

The Washington Huskies have a massive in-state rivalry with the Washington State Cougars, who hail from the rural east of Washington State in a little town called Pullman (outside Spokane). Known as the Apple Cup, the rivalry dates back to 1900, when the teams tied 5-5. Since then, the teams have met 115 times, often with conference titles or Bowl games on the line. The Huskies lead the all-time series 76-33-6, with the Cougars winning just twice since 2010 (though the 2023 edition was a 24-21 thriller for the Huskies). The Huskies’ other main local foe is the Oregon Ducks, against whom they contest the Border War (sometimes also called the Cascade Clash). Washington holds a 62-48-5 advantage in that series.

Finding Washington Huskies Football Tickets

Situated in a large city like Seattle on the campus of one of the region’s major universities, it is perhaps no surprise that such a storied and successful football team as the Washington Huskies would be a major draw for both casual and lifelong fans. While this makes for a fantastic game day experience, getting your hands on tickets can be tricky, particularly for key conference matchups, Bowl games, or rivalry matchups. TicketX is your one-stop shop for affordable tickets to all the most exciting Washington Huskies. Check our TicketX listings to view available tickets and use our helpful stadium seating chart to compare seating options in terms of price and location.
