In 1950, however, the Wildcats finally broke through, not only winning the Southeastern Conference with a 11-1 record, but also claiming the Sugar Bowl with a 13-7 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners. The team followed up this success with a Cotton Bowl victory in the very next year. Following many more years of mediocrity, the Wildcats have emerged somewhat again in recent seasons, winning two Citrus Bowls and a Gator Bowl since 2018.
