Kittie is a Canadian heavy metal band that formed in 1996. The band, based out of Ontario, was formed, in part, by the Lander sisters, who remain the only two constant members. They chose their band name because they liked the idea of it being contradictory. They released their debut album in 1999, which was later released in a wider manner from another label. Spit sold over 600,000 copies in the U.S. and led to heavier sounds in later albums. Kittie created its own label and released a fourth album in 2007. They went on hiatus in 2011 but put out a documentary in 2018 that goes over their history and celebrates the band’s 20th anniversary. They had a reunion concert at that time and have been performing regularly since 2022. Kittie released its first album in 13 years in 2024. The band has influenced many others of its kind and OC Weekly called them the 8th best Canadian metal band in 2016.
