All I Ever Wonder
St. Paul and the Broken Bones emerged from a planned ending when singer Paul Janeway met up with Jesse Phillips for a recording session in Birmingham that they thought would mark the end of their work together with a previous band. Recruiting other members to a new soul group, the pair ended up forming St. Paul and the Broken Bones in 2012, releasing an eponymous EP that same year. The band’s first three studio albums met with popular success, reaching high into the US Billboard 200 charts (56th, 44th, 56th), extremely impressive for a group devoted to Southern soul music. Janeway is known for writing most of their songs, inspired by everything from his complex family past and experiences as a father to sci-fi and Greek mythology. St. Paul and the Broken Bones has also become somewhat more experimental in their most recent two albums, incorporating elements of hip hop, psychedelia, and even heavy metal into their previously largely soul-inspired music.
