The Texas San Antonio Roadrunners, who represent the University of Texas at San Antonio in Division NCAA college football, are one of the newest college football teams in America, having only been formed in 2011 after more money was allotted by UTSA to developing their athletic programs. Named for the speedy bird that famously inhabits the Lone Star State (as well as many hours of Sunday morning cartoons…), the Roadrunners have had a relatively good start in the NCAA so far, with a winning record overall (84-75) and two conference titles (2021 and 2022) in the Conference USA. The team moved to the more prestigious American Athletic Conference (AAC) in 2023, prompting fears that they might struggle to compete, but they fared quite well, going 9-4 in their first season in the new conference. Fans in San Antonio, starved for high level football after the Alamodome failed to attract a permanent NFL franchise, have really taken to the Roadrunners, piling into the too often empty stands of the Alamodome clad in blue, orange, and white to cheer on their team.
