The Chicks, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks, are an American country music band from Dallas, Texas, consisting of lead vocalist Natalie Maines and sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer. Founded in 1989 by the Erwin sisters along with Laura Lynch and Robin Lynn Macy, the band rose to mainstream success after Natalie Maines joined in 1995. Their debut major-label album Wide Open Spaces (1998) and follow-up Fly (1999) both achieved diamond certification. Over their career they have earned 13 Grammy Awards, including Album, Record, and Song of the Year for Taking the Long Way (2006). In 2020, they removed "Dixie" from their name in response to racial justice concerns and released Gaslighter, their first studio album in 14 years. They are the best-selling all-female band and best-selling country group since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991.
