Home Teams: Minnesota Twins (MLB)
After spending their first five decades sharing with the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL, the Minnesota Twins got a baseball-specific stadium of their own at long last when they made Target Field their permanent home in 2010. Set amongst the historic buildings of the warehouse district, this open-air* ballpark stares out on the high-rises of downtown Minneapolis. The Twins, two-time World Series winners with two memorable seven-game series victories in 1987 over the St. Louis Cardinals and 1991 over the Atlanta Braves, have not exactly caught fire in their new stadium as of yet, though they have made the playoffs four times in the past seven seasons, even beating the Toronto Blue Jays in the Wild Card in 2023 before falling to the Houston Astros in the ALDS. The ballpark contains a few unique features such as the Budweiser roof deck outside left-center field that has the only open bonfire in MLB. It is a popular spot, generally being standing room only. Many visitors also enjoy the large display of Minnie and Paul, the Twins’ logo which features two baseball players shaking hands across the Mississippi River, one wearing the uniform of the Minneapolis Millers and the other of the St. Paul Saints, the two minor-league teams of the Twin Cities that preceded the arrival of the Twins. The display lights up in various ways during games in response to what happens on the field each inning. Along with all regular season and playoff Twins home games, Target Field occasionally hosts concerts, international soccer matches, college football games, and outdoor NHL hockey games. Hungry visitors to Target Field will find plenty of scrumptious snacks, including Kramarczuk’s Polish sausages, Red Cow cheeseburgers, and Bub’s Gourmet Aussie Pies. Craft beer and draft beer flow freely all around the ground. For team and event merchandise, head to one of the numerous shops and kiosks around the venue.
*While the open-air design provides lovely views of the night or afternoon sky above downtown, Minnesota can get cold at either end of the season. Bundle up.
While one of the smaller parks in MLB, Target Field has a broad selection of different seating options for visitors to choose from.
