Home Teams: Arkansas Razorbacks (NCAA College Basketball)
The Arkansas Razorbacks men’s and women’s basketball teams have played their home games in Fayetteville’s Bud Walton Arena, one of the largest NCAA arenas in the nation, ever since the purpose-built venue was constructed in 1993. While the University of Arkansas has always been better known for its success on the gridiron (Arkansas Razorbacks Football) than on the hardcourt, the Razorbacks men’s basketball team has steadily grown into one of the strongest basketball programs in the nation. Throughout their history, the Razorbacks have qualified for 35 NCAA March Madness postseason basketball tournaments, progressing 14 times to the Sweet 16 round and 11 times to the Elite 8. In the two seasons following the opening of Bud Walton Arena, the Razorbacks not only made their fifth and sixth appearances in the NCAA Final Four but won it all in 1994 with a dramatic 76-72 victory over the Duke Blue Devils. The Razorbacks narrowly missed out on back to back titles in 1995, falling 89–78 to the UCLA Bruins. Bud Walton Arena is thought to have played a considerable part in this success, conferring a big home advantage with a design that purposefully places as many seats as possible into limited space in order to maximize the effect of the passionate Razorbacks crowds in their cardinal red and white. As well as Razorbacks basketball games, Bud Walton Arena is also known for hosting a wide range of exciting events such as comedy shows, sporting competitions, and (especially) concerts. Hungry visitors will find many delicious treats at Bud Walton Arena concessions, including pulled pork sandwiches, BBQ brisket, nachos, and pizza, as well as plenty of good cold beer. Those searching for Razorbacks merchandise should head to shops and kiosks at Bud Walton Arena or around campus.
While the Arkansas Razorbacks basketball team is the main draw at Bud Walton Arena, consistently attracting sellout crowds to home games, concerts and other events at the venue are popular too.
