Comerica Park Events

Comerica Park opened at the dawn of the new millennium in 2000, just in time to become home to the Detroit Tigers in their 99th year as a professional baseball franchise. Comerica Park was built as a replacement for the much-loved but dilapidated Tiger Stadium, where the Tigers had played their home games since 1912. Like Ford Field (the new home of the Detroit Lions, the city’s NFL team), the ballpark was part of urgent efforts to try to bring life back to downtown Detroit, a city that has had its share of problems in recent decades due to depopulation and economical hardships. As well as giving Detroit residents a boost in terms of confidence in their city, Comerica Park seemed to give its team a much-needed shot in the arm. Since winning the World Series in 1984, the Tigers were mostly quite toothless (even referred to as the Motor City Kitties at one point) through the 1990s. Since settling into their new home, the Tigers have won two American League pennants, sending the team to the World Series on both occasions. Unfortunately for Detroit fans, their team fell hard both times at the final hurdle, losing in five to the San Francisco Giants in 2006 and being swept by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012, but seeing the World Series played twice at Comerica Park was a sight to see for long-suffering Tigers fans. The stadium itself is an attractive one, with its open layout giving views across the Detroit downtown skyline. Nine huge tiger statues stand guard at various places around the park and numerous tiger heads holding illuminated baseballs between their teeth sit along the walls. The area past the outfield wall of Comerica Park is home to a small Ferris wheel and carousel as well as a large fountain. Baseball history aficionados will love the displays on the concourse dedicated to the many incredible Tigers players who have had their shirts retired by the team. Along with all regular season and playoff Tigers home games, Comerica Park has been known to occasionally host large concerts and international soccer games.  NHL hockey games. Hungry visitors to Comerica Park will find plenty of mouth-watering meals on offer, with local Detroit restaurateurs serving up everything from cheeseburger sliders to chorizo tacos to chicken & biscuits. Those looking for Tigers team and event merchandise will find plenty on sale at the stadium’s many shops and kiosks.
