About Daytona International Speedway

For motorsports fans in America, the Daytona International Speedway is the Cathedral of Auto Racing. It is a race track named after Daytona Beach in Florida, where it is also located. The first-ever stock car race took place on the Daytona Beach Road Course in 1936. Although not very successful, it was instrumental in the commencement of an official racing competition.

In the years before the construction of the Speedway, renowned racing driver William France had promoted and participated in several racing shows in the years before. His experience with these shows encouraged him to set up an official body to regulate racing competitions and their finances in 1948. This body was known as the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). It is one of the most significant motorsports associations in the world, holding over 1,500 races annually across different countries.

In April of 1953, he got the idea to set up and build a permanent race track for all races organized by NASCAR. This race track was called the Daytona International Speedway. It is one of the fastest race tracks in the world. It proudly hosts some of the most significant competitions and events in the world of motorsports as a part of Speedweeks, including the Super Bowl of Auto Racing; Daytona 500.
