Home Teams: Missouri Tigers (NCAA College Football)
Situated on the campus of the University of Missouri in the small city of Columbia, Faurot Field is coming up on its centennial (in 2026) as the home of the Missouri Tigers football team. The stadium has one of the classic horseshoe designs popular in the early twentieth century, though stands have now been added to its open end and there has been considerable reconstruction in the years since to modernize and expand the facility. The open layout of the stadium provides expansive views of the town and its beautiful natural surroundings. The north end of Faurot Field contains a grassy knoll (used for extra cheap general admission seating during games) that contains an iconic large white M made of thousands of small whitewashed rocks (each graduate of the football team is allowed to take a single rock as a memento of their time playing for the Tigers). Students and locals refer to Faurot Field as “The Zou,” taken from a nickname for the university (“Miz-zou”) which is now a popular stadium call and response chant (where one group of fans chants “MIZ” and another responds “ZOU!” and progressively get louder and louder as they shout back and forth). Fans dress up in the black and gold of the team (the gold being closer to an orange shade, perhaps) or in tiger costumes of various descriptions. Much beloved mascot Truman the Tiger is known for revving up the crowd with his iconic (and hilarious) tail spin and other goofy antics, and the marching band leads everyone in rousing renditions of “Every True Son, Fight Tiger.” As well as Tigers home games, Faurot Field is known for hosting high school football and other sporting competitions, as well as university sports such as intramural soccer. Concerts have been held at the stadium before, but are not common. Fans who arrive hungry at Faurot Field (if not already full after tailgating) will find plenty of tempting stadium grub, including Brew Pub pizza, brisket sandwiches, and turkey legs, as well as some excellent craft beer. Those searching for Tigers merchandise will find all sorts at the kiosks and shops in Faurot Field as well as around campus.
As a large sporting venue, Faurot Field provides a broad range of seating options for visitors to choose from. Those looking to experience game day in more exclusive surroundings can opt for premium seating areas such as loge boxes, suites, or club seats like the Walsworth Family Columns Club. All have comfortable seating and top-notch service, as well as great views of the on-field action. Plenty of general admission seating can be found throughout the rest of the stadium, including the grassy hill at the northern end of the stadium around the large iconic M, where many of the team’s most passionate fans can be found. Visitors can access Faurot Field via public transportation or driving their own vehicle.
There are city buses in Columbia, but game days shuttles to Faurot Field are a much more convenient option. Head to the official Mizzou Tigers website for maps and details on shuttle times and routes. Cycling or walking to the stadium is also feasible depending on your location or, as a fall-back, a taxi or ride-share will do the trick.
Given the small rural city that Columbia is, the most practical way to arrive at Faurot Field for games and events is driving one’s own vehicle. Come prepared for traffic, however, in the streets and parking lots throughout the city and especially near the stadium. Check the official Mizzou Tigers website for comprehensive directions to the stadium, as well as useful maps.
Yes, there is parking close to Faurot Field but it is reserved for season ticket holders and donors. Some public parking is available on campus and around town, but it is best to arrive early. Head to the official Mizzou Tigers website for more details on where to park as well as maps of various parking lots.
Parking can be sometimes found for free off campus, though not always easily on game days. Expect to pay $10-20 in most lots around the university and city. Visit the official Mizzou Tigers website for further details on parking spots and parking rates.
