Located on Notre Dame Island in the cosmopolitan city of Montreal, Quebec in Canada, Gilles Villeneuve Circuit has hosted the Canadian F1 Grand Prix continuously since 1978. The circuit is named for one of Canada’s most famous F1 drivers, Gilles Villeneuve, who died tragically in a driving accident in 1982. Cutting a rough oval around Notre Dame Island, the course is characterized by its long Casino Straight, “Senna S” turns, and fearsome L’Epingle du Casino hairpin turn at the eastern tip of the island. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing won the Canadian F1 Grand Prix at Gilles Villeneuve Circuit in both 2022 and 2023 (just like he won almost everything else). Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes, however, is a huge fan favorite in Montreal, having won the race a record-tying 7 career victories at the venue (most recently in 2019). Who will take the checkered (or maple leaf?) flag in Montreal in 2024? Get your tickets from TicketX today and be there in the stands in June to find out!
Aside from the Canadian F1 Grand Prix, Gilles Villeneuve Circuit occasionally hosts other motorsports events, but for the vast majority of the year, Notre Dame Island is the one of the quietest places in the city (quite the opposite of race day!). The track even opens to people to walk, run, ride their bikes, rollerblade, or even drive! While the circuit itself is devoted to the Canadian F1 Grand Prix race itself on race day weekend, concerts, parties, and other events take place across the city all week, which have included such major acts as Shania Twain and Sheryl Crow in past years. The 2024 F1 Concerts will see The Chainsmokers (June 7) and Pitbull (June 8) performing at nearby Parc Jean-Drapeau.
As the sole Formula 1 Grand Prix race scheduled for Canada in 2024, the Canadian F1 Grand Prix at Gilles Villeneuve Circuit will be the most heavily anticipated motorsports event in the country all year. Just a short drive from the eastern United States, Montreal will be a popular destination for American motorsports fans eager to pop across the border to join in the fun, along with other racing fans flying in from all over the world. The race day atmosphere should be incredible, but high demand for tickets means that they will quickly sell out.
