Jordan-Hare Stadium Events

Jordan-Hare Stadium first opened in 1939 as the home of the Auburn Tigers football team on the campus of Auburn University. Jordan-Hare Stadium has undergone many expansions and renovations over the years, to the point where the stadium now seats close to 90,000 fans (in a city of fewer than 80,000!). It is an impressive facility, with two decks fully encircling the field as well as a huge third upper deck on the west side that stretches up into the sky. Tigers fans are a passionate lot, assembling around the stadium many hours before kickoff in their thousands to build up to the game with tailgating and partying. Since the 1980s, many have also gathered along Donahue Drive to cheer on the players and coaches as they take the Tiger Walk towards the stadium (a tradition much copied by other teams since). Once inside the gates and in the stands, fans clad in the school colors of navy blue and orange belt out their fight song “War Eagle” as the team’s mascot, an actual trained real live golden eagle, swoops around the stadium prior to kickoff (the tradition supposedly hails back to an eagle brought to an Auburn home game by a Civil War veteran in the 1800s). On the field, the Auburn Tigers have done their school proud throughout the years, bringing home no fewer than 5 claimed (and 1 unclaimed) national championships as well as 16 conference titles. The Tigers also have an impressive 24-21-2 Bowl game record. While Jordan-Hare Stadium is primarily used for Tigers home games, the venue does occasionally host other events, such as concerts and even religious services. Anyone showing up to the stadium on an empty stomach will find plenty of tempting options, including pulled pork sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks, deli-style sandwiches, and very cold beer. Kiosks and shops inside Jordan-Hare Stadium and around campus hawk all sorts of Tigers merchandise.
