Home Teams: Miami Marlins (MLB)
LoanDepot Park has been home to the Miami Marlins (formerly known as the Florida Marlins) since 2012, prior to which the team shared Joe Robbie Stadium (now Hard Rock Stadium) with the Miami Dolphins of the NFL. Hard Rock Stadium was originally constructed with the aim of hosting both football and baseball with the hope that an MLB franchise would one day come to Miami and when the Marlins did arrive in 1993, it proved a very happy home for the new expansion team indeed. Not only did the Marlins attract large crowds to the venue, but the team also thrilled their fans, and shocked the rest of the league, with two World Series titles, one in 1997 and the other in 2003. However, because the layout of the stadium was better suited to football and the hot, humid climate of Miami made attending games (never mind playing in them!) during the summer months quite unpopular, it was decided to build a new stadium with a retractable roof. This new venue would become LoanDepot Park. Balking at the recent trend for retro-style stadiums, the architects of LoanDepot Park would instead opt for a more experimental and futuristic design to reflect Miami’s spirit as a dynamic and forward-looking city. Bright colors, pastels, and tiles around the stadium, as well as an aquarium filled with tropical fish, reflect the vibrant cosmopolitan life of Miami as a city. Out past the left field fence, the ballpark features a nightclub and a swimming pool as a nod to South Beach and Miami’s wilder side. LoanDepot Park is also known as one of the greenest, most environmentally friendly stadiums in professional sport today, utilizing its glass facade to decrease the need for artificial light and building with sustainable materials. Along with all regular season and playoff Marlins home games, LoanDepot Park sometimes hosts concerts, international soccer matches, college football, and motorsports events. Hungry visitors to LoanDepot Park will find plenty of tasty snacks, including local delicacies like Cuban sandwiches, stone crabs, and buffalo chicken tacos at the Taste of Miami food court section of the park. Those in search of team and event merchandise should head to the many shops and kiosks dotted around the venue.
While it is one of the smallest baseball stadiums in MLB, LoanDepot Park still provides a diverse range of different seating options for visitors to choose from. Those interested in an exclusive gameday experience can opt for premium seating in the many luxury suites that the stadium contains. All premium areas have spectacular views along with five-star amenities and hospitality. For those on a budget, LoanDepot Park also has extensive general seating ranging from mid-to-high-priced seats in the infield up to the cheaper seats of the upper decks and outfield.
