Lumen Field Events

Lumen Field opened in 2002 as the new home of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, who were joined by the Seattle Sounders of MLS in 2009. The stadium was built in an unusual U-shaped configuration with a 13-story scoreboard tower standing in the middle of the open north side above a set of bleachers known as the Hawks’ Nest. Lumin Field is located alongside T-Mobile Park, home of MLB’s Seattle Mariners. The decision to leave one side of Lumen Field open was made to provide fans with spectacular views of downtown Seattle. The concourses of the stadium were also left open to maximize the beauty of the city’s surroundings, looking out over Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountains. As a result, Seattle’s rainy climate sometimes leads to rather damp and windy encounters at the stadium, with placekickers in particular finding it a hard place to send critical field goals through the uprights. The weather, as well as the record-setting roar of local crowds, seems to have contributed to a serious home field advantage for all Seattle teams. The Seahawks were the first to bring true glory back to Lumen Field, winning the franchise’s first-ever Super Bowl in 2014 (Super Bowl XLVIII, held in New Jersey at MetLife Stadium) with a 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos. The Sounders matched their achievement in the 2016 MLS Cup, then upped the ante in 2019 by winning a second championship. Along with all regular season and playoff Seahawks and Sounders home games, Lumen Field hosts a full calendar of top high school and NCAA college football games, concerts, and international soccer matches. The venue is also scheduled to host several matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Showing up hungry? Lumen Field has you covered with plenty of tasty snacks to sample, everything from hot chicken sandwiches and vegan nachos to Din Tai Fung dumplings and Manu’s tacos. There is plenty of craft beer on tap and, of course, a Starbucks. Team and event merchandise, much of it featuring the iconic logo and colors of the Seahawks, can be purchased in the stadium’s many kiosks and shops.
