Home Teams: UCLA Bruins (NCAA College Basketball)
Home to the UCLA Bruins men’s and women’s basketball teams, volleyball team, and women’s gymnastics program since 1965, Pauley Pavilion is located on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles. By many measures, the UCLA Bruins men’s basketball team has historically been one of the best college basketball programs in America, ranking fifth in terms of total wins (1,986) and win percentage (.691) overall. The Bruins have also won a record 11 NCAA championship titles, 10 of which came within just 12 seasons under legendary head coach John Wooden during a period of absolute dominance for UCLA in the 1960s and 70s. Their only other, and most recent, title came in 1995, but the team has nonetheless remained competitive in recent years, featuring regularly in the NCAA postseason March Madness tournament, with 4 appearances in the Final Four in the 2000s including one appearance in the title game in 2006 (which the Bruins lost to the Florida Gators). Along with their successes as a team, the Bruins have also produced many players that have gone on to become legends in the NBA, including the incomparable Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Reggie Miller, and Bill Walton. Russell Westbrook, Jrue Holiday, and Zach LaVine are among the ex-Bruins who currently play in the NBA. As well as Bruins home games, Pauley Pavilion is known for hosting intramural basketball and even pickup games, as well as a huge range of university events. It was a gymnastics venue for the 1984 Olympics and will reprise this role for judo and wrestling at the 2028 Olympics. Large ceremonies, conventions, political debates, and dinner events are also sometimes held in the venue. Pauley Pavilion is known for hosting concerts on a regular basis, though bigger acts tend to perform at larger Los Angeles venues these days. The Bruins student fans group, known as the Den, shows up en masse at every home game, clad in the school colors of yellow and blue, and generates plenty of noise. Hungry visitors to Pauley Pavilion will find no shortage of tasty treats at the concessions, which feature churros, pizza, and classic Bruins dogs, along with cold beer and wine (as of 2022!). Those looking to buy Bruins or event merchandise can check out the shops and kiosks at Pauley Pavilion or around campus.
