While Florida Gators basketball has long been overshadowed by its much more famous football team, the Gators basketball team have actually come into their own in a big way over the past three decades. Along with becoming regular NCAA March Madness postseason tournament contenders, the Gators have made 5 Final Four appearances since 1994, leading to a runner-up finish in 2000 after tough 89-76 in the final at the hands of the Michigan State Spartans. Lessons were learned, however, and so when the Gators got back to the championship final game in 2006, they made no mistake, dispatching the UCLA Bruins by a score of 73-57. Not content with one championship, the Gators scored a rare repeat in 2007, defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes 84-75 in the final. The years since have seen the Gators continue to qualify for March Madness tournaments, though a below par season in 2023 saw them miss out on the postseason. Their fans will be expecting a return to glory in 2024!
