Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have always been one of the NFL’s most consistently good teams, appearing in the post-season 29 times since the AFL-NFL merger of 1970 (in 1969, the final year prior to the merger, the team won the NFL championship, led by a fearsome defensive line that became known as “The Purple People Eaters”). And yet the Purple and Gold are also consistent in their inability to turn any of their many playoff appearances since into Super Bowl championships. The Vikes have been to the Big Dance four times, coming up short on all four occasions in losses to the Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Oakland Raiders. The franchise has also lost in six straight NFC Championship games since 1978. However, with each strong regular season performance or promising playoff run, the Vikings rabid (purple) fanbase in Minnesota starts believing that this year just has to be their year. Get your Minnesota Vikings tickets today from TicketX, don something purple, and go see if they’re right!

Rival Teams

Nothing gets NFL football fans all revved up like watching their team square off against one of their biggest rivals. Here are two of the Minnesota Vikings’ most significant rivalries.

Minnesota Vikings vs Chicago Bears

The Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears have been rivals ever since the Vikings entered the league in 1961, with the two teams battling for dominance of the NFC North Division (when the Bears are actually any good). While the Vikings lead the all-time series at 65–57–2, the Bears won the teams’ only postseason meeting in 1994 by a score of 35-18. The Vikings and Bears are set to renew hostilities twice in the 2024-25 season: at Soldier Field in Chicago on November 24 and at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on December 16.

Minnesota Vikings vs Green Bay Packers

The rivalry between the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers also fired up in 1961 between these two teams in the same division. A little extra spice was added by the all-encompassing sports rivalry between the states of Wisconsin and Minnesota, which includes many college rivalries such as that between the Wisconsin Badgers and the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Further animosity has grown between fans due to Packers legend Brett Favre relocating to the Vikings late in his career as well as Randy Moss, er, mooning the Green Bay fans in the teams’ first ever playoff game (it worked, as the Vikings won).  The 2024-25 season will see the Vikings and Packers clash twice: at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on September 29 and at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on December 29.

When does the NFL Preseason start for the Minnesota Vikings?

The Vikings then head out on the road to play the Cleveland Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland on August 17 and the Philadelphia Eagles on August 24 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia to round out their preseason.

2024-25 NFL Season Predictions

Which Teams Will Go To the 2024-25 NFL Playoffs?

There will be 14 teams that qualify for the Postseason—seven from the AFC and seven from the NFC—and despite an influx of new and talented QBs drafted by teams in the 2024 NFL Draft, expect at least 11 of the same teams in the NFL Playoffs as last season.

So, who are the four that might not make it this time and who didn’t make the Playoffs last year but might in the 2024-25 season? The Buccaneers, Browns, and Steelers may find it harder this time around, with the Falcons, Bengals, and Jets possibly making the Wild Card round.

Last season, the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers met in the NFC Championship Game, and the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs collided in the AFC Championship Game, with the 49ers meeting the Chiefs in the Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

Expect those four heavyweights, along with the Packers, Eagles, Cowboys, and Rams in the NFC and the Texans and Bills in the AFC, to make it back to the NFL Playoffs next season.

Which Two Teams Will Go To Super Bowl LIX and Why?

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will be seeking their third straight Super Bowl win. With genius Head Coach Andy Reid, TE Travis Kelce, and a much-improved defense, they are the best team in the AFC and have lofty expectations. The Lions had the Niners on the ropes last year and have steadily improved the last two seasons. They are eyeballing a shot at the Super Bowl and have the skill position players and chip on their shoulders.

So Jared Goff and Detroit (12/1 to win the Super Bowl, DraftKings) could meet the best player in the NFL—Mahomes—and his Chiefs (+550) in Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Sunday, February 9, 2025.

Trade Rumors and Draft Picks

After a drab 7-10 campaign in 2023-24 where they missed the playoffs, the Minnesota Vikings will be looking to revamp their squad via free agents, new talent from the draft, and trades with other teams. The big talk in Minnesota right now revolves around the quarterback position, with long-time starter Kirk Cousins now departed. The Vikings did select quarterback J. J. McCarthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but whether he will be ready to take up the top spot remains to be seen. For depth and experience, the Vikings may turn to the trade or free agency, with rumored trade targets including Kyler Murray (QB) of the Arizona Cardinals, Budda Baker (S) of the Arizona Cardinals, and Jaire Alexander (CB) of the Green Bay Packers.

US Bank Stadium

US Bank Stadium opened in 2016 in Minneapolis as the new home of the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings. The stadium was built with a fixed roof, rather than a retractable or open roof as has been the trend in recent decades, due to the impracticality of opening and closing the roof during Minnesota’s harsh winters. Nevertheless, the translucent materials used to construct the stadium’s roof and wall panels allow for plenty of natural light and provide spectacular views over Minneapolis. The roof is also slanted to allow snow to slide off (like a ski chalet), one of the many reasons why fans have described US Bank Stadium as the NFL’s most attractive venue. Along with all regular season and playoff Vikings home games, US Bank Stadium hosts important NCAA college baseball and football games, concerts, and occasional soccer matches. Super Bowl LII was also held at US Bank Stadium in 2018. If you arrive at the stadium on an empty stomach, you won’t have far to look for delicious stadium snacks, including walking tacos, sweet potato fries, and, er, bratchos (an allegedly happy marriage of bratwurst and nachos).

How to get to US Bank Stadium

Both Metro light rail and local buses can get you to US Bank Stadium if you are located in the areas served by those services. Taking a taxi or driving your own vehicle to the venue is also fairly straightforward, though traffic gets fairly heavy in the hours leading up to kickoff. There is ample parking all around US Bank Stadium, but it is still highly recommended to reserve a parking spot in advance ($5-55). Visit US Bank Stadium’s official website for maps, driving directions, and detailed parking instructions.

US Bank Stadium Bag Policy

The US Bank Stadium bag policy asks fans not to bring any bags to the stadium unless absolutely necessary. A single clear plastic bag (maximum size: 12" x 6" x 12") or a one-gallon clear plastic bag is permitted, as well as a small clutch or purse (maximum size: 4.5" x 6.5") with no handles or straps. Diapers and medical necessities are permitted (in clear plastic bags).

US Bank Stadium Rules

US Bank Stadium has an extensive list of rules meant to ensure a safe and fun day for all at the venue. Most of them are common sense, but a few of the most important rules to remember are:

  • Balloons and Beach Balls - balloons, beach balls, and other inflatable items are not permitted inside the stadium. For a full list of prohibited items, refer to the A-Z guide page.

  • Bottles/Cans - bottles and cans cannot be carried into the stadium. Anyone concealing alcohol or other drinks to bring into the stadium may be ejected.

  • Cashless Payments - US Bank Stadium is a cashless-only facility, accepting only card or mobile payments. Guests with cash can convert this to a card at one of the ReadySTATION kiosks inside the stadium.

  • Inline Skates - great for getting to the stadium, but you cannot wear them inside! Please take them off and store them under your seat.

Visit the stadium’s A-Z guide page for a full list of rules at US Bank Stadium.

Hotels Near US Bank Stadium

A number of good hotels can be found within walking distance (or a short cab ride) of US Bank Stadium, including the Moxy Minneapolis Downtown, Aloft Minneapolis, and Canopy by Hilton Minneapolis Mill District .

US Bank Stadium Seating Chart

US Bank Stadium is a large venue where visitors can choose from a wide range of seating options. Premium areas include club seats or spectacular luxury suites that include the Loft Suite, Loft Bar, Norseman Suite and Cabin Suite. Throughout the rest of the stadium, guests will find plentiful general seating ranging from moderately expensive seats near the field to cheap seats that get cheaper the closer you get to the roof. Rest assured, however, that US Bank Stadium doesn’t have a bad seat in the house; wherever you’re perched, you’ll have a fantastic view of the action.
