When one steps into the Lyric Baltimore, it takes one back to the late 19th century. The venue has an unlikely decoration tailored to evoke a laid-back but elegant European music theater. The classic-inspired details that make it so include the pilasters crowned with Corinthian capital calligraphy, dentil cornices, and arch-shaped pediment doorways. The superb acoustic sound design contributes to the center being sought after among scores of professional event venues.

The Lyric was built in 1893 as a centerpiece in the city of Baltimore’s cultural burgeoning. Along these lines, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Under the roof of the Lyric Theater, the Modell Performing Arts Center has become a top choice destination in Baltimore to see Broadway shows, concerts, and other special occasions. It is also home to the Lyric Opera Baltimore, known for grand stage performances with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Since its inception, the venue has gone by several names. It started as The Music Hall, precisely between 1894 and 1909. Then, the place became the Lyric Opera House for the rest of the twentieth century. In 2010, the name was changed to The Patricia and Arthur Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric as a recognition of a 10-year $3.5 million donation.
