All four members are Austin natives: Schrobilgen and Livingston have been friends since preschool, the two met Halter in middle school, and de St. Aubin joined when the band formed in 2022. The band's name uses the feminine German definite article "Die" in place of the English "The." Known for a genre-crossing sound that blends punk, grunge, hardcore, and heavy metal, and featuring three lead vocalists who alternate on songs, Die Spitz have built a reputation as one of the most explosive live acts in rock, with Paste magazine calling them "the real, explosive deal, unleashing some of the best rock and roll that Gen Z has to offer" and Spin naming them "one of the most riotous new live bands on the planet."
