Lettuce is a funk band that began playing together in 1992 in Boston, Massachusetts. The members attended Berklee College of Music together as teens and jammed over the summer months before going their own ways. They got back together in 1994 and started asking club owners to allow them to play. Asking clubs to “let us play” gave them the name Lettuce. Word of mouth helped them to gain followers in cities like Chicago, New York City, Tokyo, and San Francisco. Their first album was released in 2002 and a live album followed in 2003. They recorded their second album in 2008 and drew from the 70s funk movement. Many Lettuce members have had success in other musical areas. For example, one has been a full-time member of the Dave Matthews Band for over a decade.
