RAYE is a three-time Grammy-nominated British singer-songwriter, producer, and music industry disruptor from South London, born Rachel Keen in 1997 to a mixed-race family of Ghanaian-Swiss and English heritage. After attending the BRIT School and parting ways with Polydor Records in 2021, publicly calling out the label's refusal to release her debut album, she launched an independent career that produced the most celebrated comeback story in recent British music. Her debut album My 21st Century Blues (2023) debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart and earned her seven BRIT Award nominations in a single year, the most ever for a solo artist. She won Best New Artist, Song of the Year for "Escapism," and Best R&B Act. Her sophomore album, released in 2026, was preceded by lead single "Where Is My Husband!," a funky brass-driven soul-pop anthem co-written with longtime collaborator Mike Sabath, and earned RAYE another Grammy nomination. Blending blues, R&B, trip-hop, jazz, and pop with fearlessly confessional lyrics, she has written songs for Beyoncé, John Legend, Little Mix, and David Guetta. Her This Tour May Contain New Music tour, a 40-date arena run from January 22 through May 20, 2026, featured six sold-out nights at London's The O2 and concluded its North American leg, which visited Radio City Music Hall in New York, the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, and venues across Philadelphia, Boston, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Austin, Phoenix, and San Francisco, with direct support from RAYE's younger sisters Absolutely and Amma throughout.
RAYE's live shows are widely described as one of the most immersive and emotionally intelligent concert experiences in contemporary music, part theatrical journey, part jazz club intimacy, part euphoric pop spectacle. Her shows move between genres with the ease of a classically trained singer who grew up hearing Ella Fitzgerald and Rihanna in equal measure, and her full big band, including brass, strings, and rhythm section, gives every song a live weight that surpasses the studio recordings. Her sisters Absolutely and Amma open every show, providing a musical warm-up that connects seamlessly with RAYE's own set.
Her catalog spans genres and moods: "Escapism" (featuring 070 Shake, BRIT Award Song of the Year 2024), "Environmental Activist," "Hard Out Here," "Black Mascara," "Ice Cream Man," "Genesis," "The Thrill Is Gone," "By Your Side" (with Jonas Blue), "You Don't Know Me" (with Jax Jones), and "Where Is My Husband!" Her collaborations with Beyoncé, John Legend, and David Guetta have placed her songwriting credits on some of the biggest albums of the past decade.
RAYE won six BRIT Awards in 2024, Best New Artist, Song of the Year for "Escapism," and Best R&B Act, after receiving six nominations in a single year, the most ever for a solo artist in BRIT Awards history. She has received three Grammy nominations and was honored by the Ivors Academy with a special Ivors Academy Honour recognizing her as "the UK's finest songwriter and a fearless force for change."
