Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, a historic venue in San Francisco, has been a pivotal site for diverse entertainment and political events since its construction in 1915 for the Panama–Pacific International Exposition. Designed by acclaimed architects John Galen Howard, Frederick Herman Meyer, and John W. Reid Jr., the venue has hosted significant events including the 1920 Democratic National Convention, the San Francisco Opera, the National AAU boxing trials in 1948, and was the home of the San Francisco Warriors from 1964 to 1967. An underground expansion in 1958, named Brooks Hall, furthered its capacity for large-scale events. The auditorium has a storied history of hosting major names in entertainment under the management of James T. Graham from 1954 to 1970, including Elvis Presley, Judy Garland, Ray Charles, and many others. It was later renamed in 1992 after Bill Graham, a renowned rock concert promoter, reflecting its deep ties to the music and cultural scene of San Francisco. In its more recent history, managed by Another Planet Entertainment since 2010, the auditorium continues to serve as a premier venue for concerts across various genres, conventions, and other significant gatherings, owned by the City and County of San Francisco. The Bill Graham Civic Auditorium remains an iconic symbol of San Francisco’s rich cultural and entertainment heritage, embodying decades of significant performances, events, and political milestones within its walls.
Over the years, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium has hosted many entertainment events since its inception. Its versatility allows it to be the stage for various performances and sports events.
