Capacity: 22,000
Home Teams: Los Angeles FC (MLS)
The spectacular new soccer-specific BMO Stadium first opened in 2018, just in time for the inaugural season of Los Angeles FC (LAFC), who joined the LA Galaxy to become the city’s second MLS franchise (in keeping with the city’s general pattern of “double teaming”: Lakers-Clippers, Dodgers-Angels, Rams-Chargers, Kings-Ducks). With a huge multicultural soccer fan base in the city, Los Angeles FC was instantly embraced by huge legions of local fans, turning annual clashes with the Galaxy into instant local derby matches (dubbed El Trafico by someone with a great sense of humor and full knowledge of Los Angeles’s horrendous traffic). BMO Stadium has been praised for its layout and design, with steep sides providing excellent views of the on-field action as well as a feeling of closeness, as well as a standing section (the 3252) which has handrails that resemble those used on rollercoasters! The northeast of the stadium has an area left open to allow for impressive views of downtown Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Mountains. Los Angeles FC have rewarded their owners for this gorgeous venue by leaping into instant contention as one of the best teams in MLS. The team finished first overall in its second season, claiming the 2019 Supporters’ Shield, only losing out in the semifinals of the MLS Playoffs to the Seattle Sounders by a score of 3-1. Bolstered by (aging/creaking) Welsh superstar Gareth Bale, Los Angeles FC came storming back in 2022 to register a double, claiming the Supporters’ Shield before going on to win the MLS Cup over the Philadelphia Union in dramatic fashion, with Bale scoring a last-second equalizer in extra time to level the score at 3-3 and take the game to penalties (which LA won 3-0). Los Angeles FC came close to a rare title repeat in 2023, losing a 2-1 heartbreaker to the Columbus Crew in the MLS Cup Final. Los Angeles FC fans are a loud and passionate bunch, with scores of different supporters groups known collectively as The 3252 (the number of fans allowed into the safe standing zone at BMO Stadium. One group called Relentless even travels to away games because 90% of the group works in the airline industry! Hungry visitors at BMO Stadium will find no shortage of tasty snacks, with everything from buffalo loaded fries and the Huli Huli Fried Chicken Sandwich to House Braised Nachos and walking tacos on the menu, as well as plenty of cold beer. For Los Angeles FC merchandise, head to one of the venue’s many shops and kiosks.
As well as Los Angeles FC soccer games, BMO Stadium is known for hosting international soccer matches, including those featuring the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team and U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (due to LA’s huge Latino community, Mexico and several Central America countries also have played “home” matches at BMO Stadium). The venue has also hosted lacrosse, rugby, and boxing. Despite having only been built in 2018, BMO Stadium has already witnessed a bewildering number of concerts by international stars, with past performers including Mumford & Sons, Beck, Iron Maiden, Guns N’ Roses, Mexican group RBD, and K-pop acts Twice and Blackpink. The venue was also the site of the Rolling Loud hip-hop music festival (Post Malone, Lil Wayne, Cardi B, Playboi Carti, Chance the Rapper, Future, and many more) as well as the 2023 Hard Summer Festival.
The following large concerts are scheduled to be held at BMO Stadium in 2024:
