Home Teams: Seattle Kraken (NHL), Seattle University Redhawks (NCAA College Basketball)
For the home of the NHL’s newest team, the Seattle Kraken, who joined the league in 2021, the Climate Pledge Arena* is a venue of surprising vintage. Built to the north of downtown Seattle in the early 1960s for the World’s Fair alongside the iconic Space Needle, the Climate Pledge Arena was long the scene of home court for the Seattle SuperSonics of the NBA, who moved to Oklahoma City in 2008 to become the Oklahoma City Thunder (a source of much bitterness among Sonics fans to this day). The Kraken were released onto the scene just as the COVID pandemic began to recede and the new team has proven a big draw with hockey fans thus far as the first-ever NHL franchise in Seattle. Along with regular season and playoffs Kraken home games, the Climate Pledge Arena also hosts concerts, college basketball games, and boxing. Hungry fans will find plenty of tempting offerings at the venue’s concessions, with everything from Mexican street food to Korean BBQ bowls to clam chowder on the menu. This being Seattle, vegan and vegetarian options obviously abound. Those in search of team and event merchandise should head to the many kiosks and shops dotted around the arena.
*The Climate Pledge Arena gets its curious name from the venue’s admirable goal of “net-zero” operations. The arena does its best to avoid single-use plastics, sources most of its food locally, collects rainwater for the ice surface (rain isn’t hard to collect in Seattle!), and encourages the use of public transportation through distributing free transit passes to fans.
Climate Pledge Arena offers a wide selection of seating options to its visitors. Premium areas include the Pitchbook Suites and Moet & Chandon Imperial Lounge, both of which provide luxury accommodation and five-star service for an exclusive game day experience. The majority of the arena is filled with general admission seating that ranges from lower bowl seats that go up in price as you approach the ice surface and seats in the upper tier that get cheaper as you approach the rafters. Peruse TicketX to find tickets to events and games at Climate Pledge Arena and use our handy seating chart to compare different seating options.
Visitors can access the Climate Pledge Arena via public transportation or driving their own vehicle. As its name implies, the venue promotes the use of public transportation (even distributing free transit passes).

As well as the city’s light rail and buses, the brand-new Seattle Center Monorail can whisk you from downtown to the venue in record time. Check the Climate Pledge Arena's official website for detailed public transportation directions and schedules, as well as for information on how to claim your free public transit pass.
